How to Finish Writing a Book
Most people who start writing a book never finish. The difference is not talent. It is strategy.
Know your target
You cannot finish if you do not know where the finish line is. Set a total word count goal based on your genre. A standard novel is 70,000-90,000 words. Set that as your goal and track your progress.
Break it into daily pieces
80,000 words sounds impossible. 500 words a day sounds easy. It is the same book - just broken into pieces. Set a daily writing goal and stick to it.
Do not edit while you write
The fastest way to never finish is to keep rewriting chapter one. Write the whole draft first. Edit later. Your first draft is for getting the story out. Your second draft is for making it good.
Track everything
Use BookBeast to log your daily words and watch your progress. Seeing the percentage tick up from 40% to 45% to 50% keeps you moving forward. Visible progress is the best motivator.
Push through the messy middle
Every book has a point around 30-50% where it feels like a mess. This is normal. Keep writing. The structure will emerge. If you stop here, you stop forever.
